WHY SURVEY A YACHT?

Whether you are putting your money on the line or your life on the line, it is more than advisable to have an expert survey done before you make a commitment.

Well qualified yacht surveyors have a mixture of experience, specialist training in various skills and the backing of years in the industry.

You will need a survey for insurance in due course so find out the condition before you buy. If you intend to register the boat, ask for the tonnage measurement to be done at the same time.

Your marine surveyor may identify faults that the average boat owner will not be aware of, possibly using specialist equipment.

Knowledge of faults and deterioration can assist the purchaser regarding associated rectification of defects or appropriate allowances.

Yacht Surveyors

When buying a yacht for sale we recommend that you instruct an experienced qualified surveyor with Professional Indemnity insurance to carry out your survey. Although all our captains are highly qualified in all aspects of vessel surveying and will be able to guide and direct both buyers and surveyors we always recommend that a new buyer should use an independent surveyor.

Pre -SURVEY ON A YACHT

European Yacht Services and captains, will assist your surveyor with yacht details, history, arrange access to the yacht and/or boat yard, book or liaise with the yard for lift out, hull-wash and block if required.

Choose a professional surveyor that is qualified, trained, experienced, holds PI Insurance and is a member of a professional body such as YDSA, MCA, Lloyds, Veritas, RINA, IIMS, MECAL.

European Yacht Services do not recommend any particular surveyor and will work with any qualified surveyor instructed by our clients so as to ensure both buyer and seller are protected.

The main Classifications Societies and professional bodies are YDSA (Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association), MCA (Marine Coastguard Agency) , ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) Bureau Veritas, RINA, Lloyds, RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and IIMS (International Institute of Marine Surveyors).

Most surveyors like to be left to get on with the survey and will report back to the buyer direct, after survey and before the report is written up.

We are always on hand should the surveyor of record need any additional information or has questions relating to the yacht.


Comprehensive Sea Trials & Recommendations For Improvement

  • We conduct sea trials and engine assessment of yachts along with superficial condition assessments and with detailed surveyor reports covering all aspects of the vessel, its structural, rigging, electrical systems, navigational systems, etc.

  • A comprehensive report on engine performance is issued with a list of findings normally done with mechanics experienced with that boats engines,

  • Wold-Wide will perform the full mechanical and structural survey for the yacht under testing sea conditions.

Accuracy Standard Verification & Repair Supervision

  • European Yacht Services will be on board - be in attendance to verify repairs and/or modifications are done under the required specs and to expedite repairs at repair yards.

  • A detailed report is given on daily or weekly progress to Yacht owners.

Magnetic Compass Adjusting & Plotting Of Deviation Card

  • Magnetic compass surveys are carried out and large errors are corrected on site, with remnant errors, a deviation card is issued which needs t be displayed on board vessel.
